Educate Together Launches “We Need a Hand” Campaign

Despite remaining the fastest growing sector in the Irish education system, with demand for the expansion of its services nationwide, Educate Together still survives on State grants of less that 20% of its needs. During the past year, it has made a number of applications to the Department of Education and Science for appropriate funding for its work. As yet, these applications have not been successful. Educate Together has now launched its “We Need a Hand” campaign. Postcards have been sent to every T.D., M.E.P and Senator asking them to make representations to the Minister for Education in support of these proposals.
You Can Make a Difference
Later this month, the Directors of Educate Together will start a “Roadshow” travelling to a number of member school communities to mobilise support for this campaign. The Roadshow will address parent meetings and ask local school communities to press all their political representatives – of all parties – to support Educate Together.
The efficient provision of new multi-denominational schools will be a major issue in the upcoming general election, especially in areas of rapid housing growth. It is essential that the organisation establishing primary schools with guaranteed equality to all children is in a position to meet this demand.
