Vol. 5 No. 20 – November 14th, 2005
Show Your Support for Educate Together’s Funding Application!
Families in Ireland Deserve a Choice!
DATE and TIME: TUESDAY, 15th November 2005, 6pm
VENUE: Outside the Dail, Kildare Street, Dublin
The National Forum of Educate Together, held on the 12th November 2005, unanimously agreed to hold a meeting demonstrating a show of support for the organisation's application to the State for core funding.
We have asked representatives of the Government and other politicians to meet with us, so that we can present signed Petitions from all our schools, and other documents backing up our application to the state for core funding. We will also be handing out information cards to passers-by.
Everyone who can possibly make it is asked to meet outside the Dail in Kildare Street on TUESDAY, 15th November, at or before 6pm. We will be inviting the media for 6pm, and need as many people as possible gathered by 6pm, sharp. It is expected that the assembly would be finishing around 6.30pm. A room has been booked in Buswell's Hotel from 6pm to 8pm for a brief meeting and tea and coffee after the event.
Participants are asked to bring candles (please make sure that safety is a priority - please use appropriate means to ensure that there are no injuries from hot candle-wax). Educate Together will supply placards, and a large banner will also be available.
In keeping with the child-centred element of our ethos, we are not asking that children attend this show of support. Kildare Street is a busy main street, especially at 6pm, and we feel it is not a suitable venue for participation of children. However, we do understand that some parents will be accompanied by children, and we would emphasise that parents are responsible for the safety of their own children at all times.
As the budget estimates are being discussed and finalised this week, it is vital that the organisation's application for funding is supported at this crucial time. We need your support, and that of your family, friends, colleagues and relatives - anyone who believes in a choice in education in Ireland into the future.
